Emerging singer-songwriter Clara Berry of Maine is bringing a youthful perspective to the New England songwriter scene. Clara began with the craft at the age of thirteen and developed a mature, melancholy and evocative sound with the guidance of her music instructor, Tom Kovasevic.
At fifteen she began hauling her keyboard around to the local open mics and at 17 was named one of "10 Maine Bands to Watch" by the Portland Press Herald. Since then she has played at a variety of venues throughout New England, including performances opening for acts such as Mindy Smith and Cheryl Wheeler and a slot on WCSH6's 207 program.
In 2008 Clara released her first CD Wave to critical acclaim. Portland Magazine called it "sparkling and dark" while the Kennebec Journal said "As always, I'm impressed with the diversity and quality of Maine-based musicians and Clara Berry is definitely one of the best."
Last summer she released her five song EP Creature to even greater reviews, the Portland Phoenix calling it a "grab-you-by-the-throat introduction" and the Portland Press Herald said "When a chanteuse so young can package baroque turns in neat pop packages, folks take notice."
Now a senior in Music Business at UMass Lowell, Clara Continues to develop her style under her professor Thomas Stumpf.
